APO at The Sky Dome

The fun and music continue to delight audiences at the Sky Dome in SM North EDSA. Up next is the APO in Kayang Kaya Pa, also produced by Viva Concerts & Events, on Sept. 25 and 26.

The last time the APO — Jim Paredes, Danny Javier and Boboy Garovillo — performed at a concert was a few months ago at the Araneta Coliseum. What a show it was! The audience sang along with almost every song the APO did, the same ones — and more! — they are doing at Sky Dome, including Yakap Sa Dilim, Prinsesa, When I Met You, Tuyo Na’ng Damdamin, Salawikain, Pumapatak Ang Ulan, Panalangin, Nakapagtataka, Mahirap Magmahal Ng Syota Ng Iba, Kaibigan, Kabilugan Ng Buwan, Ewan, Doobidoobidoo, Batang-bata Ka Pa, Awit ng Barkada, Di Na Natuto and others that have become classics and kept the APO on top of the local charts.

An APO show is an enjoyable mix of music and laughter and Apo Kayang Kaya Pa in the intimate setting of the Sky Dome will be a great treat. Apo Kayang Kaya Pa is sponsored by The Philippine STAR, the Manila Bulletin, People’s Journal, Business World, PBO, Viva Prime and Viva Cinema. (Note: Tickets are available at all SM Ticketnet outlets. Prices are P2,000 for Gold reserved seats; P1,500 for Silver; and P1,000 for Bronze. Call Ticketnet at 911-5555 or Viva Concerts and Events at 687-6181 local 627 or 620.)

The Sky Dome at SM North EDSA is the newest happening place for concerts in Metro Manila and Viva Concerts & Events has several special shows planned in the coming months. Also scheduled are Men of the 80’s with Raymond Lauchengco, Randy Santiago, Louie Heredia and Gino Padilla; and, together for the first time, champions Rachelle Ann Go and Jed Madela in True Champions plus many others.

Yaya and Angelina: The Spoiled Brat Movie

Some things are too funny to share.

Following such a realization, APT Entertainment, Inc. and GMA Films share the highly-anticipated tandem of Michael V. as the loser Yaya and Ogie Alcasid as the naughty Angelina to moviegoers with Yaya and Angelina: The Spoiled Brat Movie.

Set to hit theaters on Sept. 23, the movie not only promises to entertain but also offers a full story packed with crazier characters and wackier cat-and-mouse fights that will both amuse and amaze the audience.

For starters, the movie will finally reveal the origin and name of Yaya. And if in Bubble Gang and Hole in the Wall, Yaya is ever so determined to stick it out with the bratty Angelina. Here, Angelina will badly hit Yaya’s patience meter which sends Yaya packing out of the Arespacochaga (Angelina’s family name) household for good. What could Angelina possibly do that she hasn’t done yet which prompted Yaya to finally cut their love-hate bond?

But however spoiled and scheming Angelina is, she gets distraught over Yaya’s absence. And during her alone moment, she accidentally uncovers a terrorist plot to assassinate the Duchess of Wellington who is scheduled to visit her school. Because of her nosiness, Angelina is eventually discovered and kidnapped by the terrorists.
What will happen to the bratty Angelina? Will Yaya be able to forgive and rescue the annoying Angelina from such a terrible predicament? Discover if the combined wits and gall of Yaya and Angelina could save the foreign dignitary and thwart the terrorists’ evil plot.

Joining the cast are Iza Calzado, Aiko Melendez, Jomari Yllana, Leo Martinez, Roxanne Guinoo, Sheena Halili, Victor Aliwalas, Pekto Nacua and John Feir.
Directed by Mike Tuviera, Yaya and Angelina: The Spoiled Brat Movie does not only satisfy the wishes of fans but more importantly, makes all audiences learn and laugh from start to finish.

Bamboo at Sky Dome Sept. 12

MANILA, Philippines - Bamboo will rock Sky Dome at SM North EDSA on Sept. 12, 8 p.m. The show featuring the band led by vocalist Bamboo Mañalac adds glitter to the venue’s reputation as a performing haven for local acts.

Fans are in for a major treat at what is being dubbed as the little Araneta Coliseum, with its intimate atmosphere that allows the audience to get a closer look at the featured artists.

“Bamboo is a premier act and rock fans shouldn’t miss this occasion knowing that Sky Dome offers a fresh and differently exciting atmosphere. The fact that the place is accessible to concert-goers makes the event more attractive,” said producer Espie Eusebio of Viva Concerts.

Bamboo has a growing list of hits that began with the big track Noypi, off the debut album As The Music Plays. Other hits in the album are Mr. Clay and Masaya.

In 2005, the band had its second album and came out with LightPeaceLove. Hits from the album include Hallelujah.

Bamboo is also composed of bassist Nathan Azarcon, guitarist Ira Cruz and drummer Vic Mercado.

The band has perfected its cover set, turning the Buklod original Tatsulok into its own piece and scoring a hit with it. Another edgy cover is its take on Umagang Kay Ganda.

Its recent hits are Probinsiya and Kailan — carrier single off the CD Tomorrow Becomes Yesterday. Bamboo is promoting the newest single Muli.

Bamboo Live @ Skydome is presented by Tanduay, along with PCSO, MYX, The Philippine Star, Manila Bulletin, Businessworld, People’s Journal, NU 107, RJ UR 105.9, Max 103.5 FM, 89.9 Magic, Jam 88.3, PBO, Viva Prime and Viva Cinema. Ticket price is P1,000 (first come, first serve). Tickets are available at SM Ticketnet outlets (with tel. no. 911-5555) or you may call Viva Concerts & Events at 687-5853 loc. 620 or 627.

Korona Sanchez

Jon Santos as Korona Sanchez

This Article is written by Ricky Lo of Philippine Star thru his column Fanfare

"When Funfare chanced upon Korona Sanchez, nicknamed Kuring, at a restaurant in Quezon City, she was in a white wedding dress...as if ready, willing, eager and able to march down the aisle with her beloved Sen. Mar Ramdamin whose sight is set on that coveted palace by the Pasig River. I could now hear the background music playing: You by my side, that’s how I see us; I close my eyes and I can see us. We’re on our way to say “I do!” My secret dreams have all come true...

Pardon the bride-to-be if she’s excited about the wedding set for later this year yet. It’s understandable. Thank heavens she very gladly agreed to a “daring” (as in no-holds-barred) interview.

What’s the first thing that you will do once you become the First Lady?

“Ipagpapatuloy ko ang lahat ng sinimulan ng mga former First Lady. Madame Meldy built a Heart Center and a Lung Center, so I will continue her work and build an Intestine Center...dalawa, Large and Small..., a Pancreas Center, a Balunbalunan Center. Lahat ng bahagi ng ating katawan ay igagawa ko ng center. Madame Ming had her Piso Para sa Pasig; ako naman, mayroong Limang Piso Para sa Laguna Bay.”

Inihahanda mo na ba ang gown mo para sa inauguration ni Sen. Mar Ramdamin in case manalo siya as president?

“That is a very, very good question but not as good as the next question I’m sure.”
What about for your wedding?

“You know, mahirap magplano ng isang kasal. Kulang ang 24 oras. But my gown will be retro-Filipina. ‘Yung mga giveaways pinaplano na rin namin. Makati Mayor Jojo Binay offered some — mga biik. Si Sen. Manny Villar mamimigay ng mga itik. We will also give away little pedicabs. Mga padyakita. O, maganda, di ba?”

What will be the color motif?

“According to Sen. Chiz, yellow. Nice, di ba? Cheese-y yellow. Puwede ring blue ang cheese — blue cheese. Sen. Gringo suggested, ‘Why not make it military green?’ Sabi ko, ‘Mahirap ‘yon; baka ang i-suggest niyang reception ay sa Oakwood o sa Manila Pen.’ Si Sen. Jamby, ang sinagest niya pink. I don’t know why.”

Sabi nila feeling First Lady ka na raw.

“Alam mo noon pa man, nakaluklok na ako sa trono sa puso ni Mar Ramdamin. I’m first and foremost a lady.”

What part of Mar Ramdamin’s body is your favorite?

“Of course, his feet. That’s his commitment — ipagpadyak ang bawat Filipino. Sa kapapadyak niya, lumaki ang mga paa niya.”

Is that the only big part in him?

“Malaki rin ang kanyang puso.”

Is it true that Mar Ramdamin is active in the Senate but passive in bed?

“Ay, ‘K’...as in bed, Kama. Pero ang mga ‘K,’ kuwento, tungkol sa mga private matter ay ‘K,’ Konfidential. Rated-K ang mga tanong mo. Kaka-tense. Ang menu sa aming reception starts with the letter ‘K’ din — Kare-Kare, Kaldereta, Kilawain, Kanin.”
Hahahahahahaha!

Enough already.

The above interview was real, of course, but the interviewee was somebody who, I suspected, was the multi-faceted/multi-personality Jon Santos pretending to be you-know-who whom the impersonator is inviting to his show Kuring, Gluring, Syerrap at Dyuning: Election Is Nearing (For Voter or for Worse) on Sept. 5 and 18 at the Teatrino (Greenhills Promenade, San Juan City; for ticket inquiries, call Ticketworld at 891-9999 or Music Museum at 710-7944) to catch more of the same “daring” interview and much, much more, including Gluring in her chacha-holic glory, Syerrap in his unmistakable macho swagger, Sen. Meeryam with her (notorious) one-liners and Mommy Dyuning doing the latest dance craze.

Jon claimed to have impersonated more than 50 celebrities so far. Any “threat” or onion-skinned reaction so far?

“Only from Ate Vi (Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos),” he said, deadpan. “Binalaan niya ako, ‘Pag naiuwi ka ni Ralph by mistake, magagalit ako’. Hindi ko pinangarap na i-take-home ako ng isang Ralph Recto, ano!”

Actually, he considers Ate Vi a good friend and his No. 1 favorite among his “alter-egos.”

“Sana ganoon din ang tingin ni Ate Vi sa akin,” he added, still deadpan, “na good friend niya ako. She’s the first one I ever impersonated, doon sa Eskinol commercial niya. Alam mo, close kami. Text-text kaming dalawa, talk kami on the phone twice a year para mag-emote-emote. The first time she joined politics, when she ran for Mayor of Lipa, I campaigned for her. During the miting de avance, Ralph would call me and as the crowd roared with laughter he would tell me, ‘Excuse me, isa ka lang fake.’ And then, he would call Ate Vi.”

And as a big nod to his idol, Jon conceded.

“I am just a second-rate, trying-hard copy-K.”

But I’m sure Korona Sanchez would agree that, yes, Jon Santos is rated-K — K as in may Karapatan.
